Why use themed Paintball and Airsoft fields and props?

A lot of our experience stems from the paintball industry.  We own a local paintball park.  Our employees have worked in the industry for some of the largest manufacturers.  We understand the sport.  What we’ve seen over the years is that paintball has evolved from dressing in camo and playing army in the woods to a very immersive game that offers a level of realism that wasn’t found in games 20+ years ago.

After speaking to many of the larger paintball park owners, we’ve found a common question brought up in our conversations.  That is “How do we bridge the gap between the younger adults sitting at home playing video games and getting them out to play paintball or airsoft?”  VFX feels that one very easy way to do this is to add elements like props or certain themed buildings and bunkers that are modeled after very popular movies and video games.

CPX Sports in Joliet, IL created the Town of Bedlam, a million dollar, ten block town that is complete with a city theme, doors, windows, vehicles and other elements you would find in a city.  The field quickly proved that themed fields are something the customers want and love to play on and will keep them coming back to play.  Another field that recently proved that themed fields are a great investment is Paintball Explosion out of East Dundee, IL.  This paintball park installed a field called Nuketown2013 which is a replica of the map from the very popular Call of Duty video game.  After installing the new field, the park has seen a major increase in new players and having them return to play again.  In fact, another paintball field in Georgia called Hoppers Paintball has even installed their own version of the Nuketown map.  Talk about a popular theme!

What we’re doing with our themed props and fields is empowering the paintball and airsoft business owners.  Our products help bridge the gap between people that like to sit at home and watch movies or play video games all day and the guys actually going out and doing something physical and having a blast while doing it!  Imagine your target demographic, sitting at home, playing the very popular video game called Halo.  What if this player could get out and play on a field that has bunkers and buildings that closely resemble elements from the video game?  What if at dusk or night, the bunkers light up with LED lights to give each bunker a glow or making one side of the field contain blue lit bunkers and the other side having red lit bunkers?  We feel this could be what paintball and airsoft has been needing to get new players involved in the sports and it also adds that level of realism we think the newer and existing players have been looking for.

For those that are worried about the durability of EPS foam being hit with paintballs or airsoft bb’s, we invite you to watch the video below.  It’s a good example of what an 1/8” layer of Polyrurea can do for impact resistance and structural rigidity.
